Former Cardiff City manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has thanked the players for their efforts, as he makes his departure from the club.

It was confirmed that Solskjaer will step down from his role with the club immediately, and that a search is underway for his replacement.

I want to thank Vincent for giving me the opportunity to manage Cardiff City FC. He has my full respect and I really wish him all the best in his pursuit of making this football club successful. However, our difference in philosophy on how to manage the club made me decide to step aside and allow the Club to move forward in the direction Vincent wants.

I leave the Club with some very talented players and want to thank them for their efforts and hope to see them challenge for promotion this season. I also want to thank Mehmet Dalman for his continued and loyal support and feel I have gained a new friend.

The Cardiff City Supporters' Trust say that a new manager is needed to 'energise the players'.

It follows the departure of former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer earlier this afternoon.

Given the team’s performances on the field this season, it was inevitable that the manager’s position would come under scrutiny.

What is needed now is a new manager who can energise the players and take the club up the Championship table.

The next appointment of a manager will be crucial. The club must get the decision spot on because there is need for stability and renewed success at the football club.?

Cardiff City wish Solskjaer 'the very best'

Cardiff City Chairman, Mehmet Dalman, has released a statement which describes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as a 'wonderful professional'.

In a tweet, the Club wish the former manager 'the very best'.

I’m sorry to say that we have agreed that it is in the best interest of the Club for us to go our separate ways.

Ole has been a wonderful professional to work with since his arrival at the Club. Due to a difference in philosophy of approach to the game, we have decided to part company amicably. He and his family will always be welcome at Cardiff City. I know I have gained a good friend whom I wish well and remain confident in his future success.

Cardiff City search for Solskjaer replacement

Cardiff City have confirmed that manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will step down from his role with the club.

Solskjaer spent Wednesday in London in talks with chairman Mehmet Dalman with owner Vincent Tan joining them on the telephone from Malaysia.

Club owner, Vincent Tan, has confirmed the search is underway to find a replacement.

He also explains that the club's recent performance does not 'justify Ole's continue role as manager'.

Ole was hired by Cardiff City on our understanding and belief that he would help us fight relegation from the Barclays Premier League. Unfortunately that did not happen. After the Club was relegated many people advised me to let him go, but I decided to keep Ole on for the Championship season. Regrettably our recent results do not justify Ole’s continued role as manager at Cardiff.

Ole has therefore decided to step down and I have accepted this. During my short association with Ole, I have found him to be an honest and hardworking professional, but unfortunately the football results were not in his favour. As long as I am the owner of this Club, Ole and his family will always be welcome in the Chairman’s Suite as my guests. I wish Ole the very best in his future career in football. We now begin the process of finding his replacement and working towards giving all our stakeholders in Cardiff City the results they deserve

Cardiff City is expected to confirm the departure of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this morning.

Solskjaer spent Wednesday in London in talks with chairman Mehmet Dalman with owner Vincent Tan joining them on the telephone from Malaysia.

The Norwegian's eight-and-a-half-month reign at Cardiff was brought into sharp focus on Tuesday night with a 1-0 defeat to Middlesbrough, the club's second home defeat in the space of four days.

According to Press Association Sport, Solskjaer's departure from the club is 'amicable' and a statement will be released by Cardiff City later this morning.

Vincent Tan to lead search for new manager

Its believed Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan will lead the search for the man to replace Solskjaer.

In January Cardiff Chairman Mehmet Dalman was tasked with finding a successor to Malky Mackay and spent weeks trying to persuade Solskjaer, then manager at Norwegian Side Molde FK, to take over at the City Stadium.

When Ole was revealed to the media Dalman made it clear that Cardiff only had one man in mind for the job.

Ten months on and Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan is ready to sack the manager they worked so hard to capture.

Reports Solskjaer to leave Cardiff City post tonight

There are reports that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will leave his post as Cardiff City manager tonight. It comes after a disappointing run by the Bluebirds, which most recently saw them lose to Middlesbrough at home and before that, to Norwich.

Solskjaer has been in talks with the club's chairman in London today over his future with Cardiff.
