Llandow business park fire finally extinguished

The fire burning at the Vale Business Park in Llandow is now out.

It began on November 26. A spokesperson for South Wales Fire & Rescue Service says efforts to tackle the blaze were hampered by the construction of the building - a former aircraft hangar built to withstand bombardment.

Firefighters are continuing to tackle a 'challenging and complex' blaze, which broke out at the Vale Business Park in Llandow on November 26th.

South Wales Fire & Rescue Service say the operation has been prolonged by the nature and volume of the burning material within the building, the strength of the building structure, challenging site conditions and the need to protect the environment.

People living nearby are advised to minimise their exposure to smoke arising from the fire - particularly those with pre-existing respiratory conditions.

Advice includes staying indoors where possible and keeping doors and windows closed.

Fire crews are continuing to tackle the remains of a fire at the Vale Business Park in Llandow, near Cardiff, almost a week since it first started.

Firefighters were called to the Siteserv recycling centre last Tuesday.

It's still not clear what caused the blaze but it could be at least another week before it's put out.

Residents were asked to keep windows and doors closed as a pall of smoke drifted across the area. Cardiff Airport was alerted as a precaution.

Richard Matheson from the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service suggests that fire crews dealing with the blaze at the Vale Business Park may be on site for days.

The "deep-seated" fire involves a large amount of mixed recycling materials.

One of the owners of a soft furnishings business in the area was notified about the fire by one of her employees after they saw smoke from one of the buildings nearby.

Pam Owen, owner of Pam Owen's Soft Furnishings, has been in business for more than 25 years and is worried about the fire spreading.

Fire crews from Llantwit Major, Cowbridge and Bridgend are dealing with a fire at the Vale Business Park in Llandow.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed that there is no asbestos within the building, but they are asking people to keep their windows and doors closed.
