Gwent slavery inquiry

A search for a body in the on-going investigation into alleged slavery has ended without any human remains being found. The search was being conducted at an address in the Peterstone area, near Marshfield on the outskirts of Newport.

Specially trained officers and a forensic archaeologist were acting on information which suggested that the body of an unknown person may have been buried at the site.

One week ago a Polish man was found living in poor conditions after a raid.

A father and his two sons have been remanded in custody charged with slavery offences.

Officers investigation alleged slavery offences in Gwent are expected to complete their search of a site in Peterstone, Wentloog, in the next two days.

Police have been at the site since 23rd September trying to ascertain whether or not a body is buried there.

Police say they will continue to search for a body at a farm near Newport throughout the weekend, as part of their investigation into slavery offences.

Three men who have been charged in relation to slavery offences will appear before Newport Crown Court next week.

Gwent Police are still appealing for anyone with information relating to the inquiry to contact them.

A father and two sons appeared in court in Cwmbran today charged with keeping slaves on their family farm.

Daniel Doran, 66, and his sons David Doran, 42, and Thomas Doran, 36, are accused of slavery at their horse farm in the countryside between Cardiff and Newport.

The three men face charges of false imprisonment, conspiracy to hold a person in servitude and conspiracy to require a person to perform forced labour. Youngest son Thomas Doran is also charged with kidnapping by force or fraud.

Their arrests follow a police raid at a farm at Marshfield, near Newport where a Polish man was rescued living in squalid conditions.

All three are now due to appear at Newport Crown Court on 3rd October.

The three men arrested on suspicion of slavery related offences in the St Brides area of Newport on the 24th of September have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Officers are continuing their search at a property at Peterstone where they believe a body maybe buried.

Three others are due before Cwmbran Magistrates later today.

Thomas Doran, 36, Daniel Doran, 66, David Daniel Doran, 42, have been charged with false imprisonment, conspiracy to hold a person in servitude and conspiracy to require a person to perform forced or compulsory labour.

Thomas Doran has also been charged with kidnapping by fraud.

Three men arrested in slavery raids across South Wales on Monday have been charged by Gwent Police.

Thomas Doran, 66, Daniel Doran, 42, David Daniel Doran, 36, have been charged with false imprisonment, conspiracy to hold a person in servitude and conspiracy to require a person to perform forced or compulsory labour.

Thomas Doran has also been charged with kidnapping by fraud.

They have been remanded in custody and will appear before magistrates at Cwmbran tomorrow.

A 42 year old woman also arrested on Monday has been bailed pending further enquiries.

The three men from the St Bride’s area arrested yesterday on suspicion of slavery and servitude offences remain in police custody.

It comes after a 60-year-old British man was discovered after a raid on a farm at St Brides near Newport yesterday. On Monday, a Polish man living in poor conditions was found on a farm in nearby Peterstone when 100 officers from Gwent police carried out a series of dawn raids.

Officers went to an address in the St Brides area of Newport and found a 60-year-old British man.

Gwent Police say three men from the area have been arrested on suspicion of slavery and servitude offences.

It comes two days after a Polish man was recovered from a farm in Marshfield, near Newport.
