Royal Mint reveal five new coin designs to expect to see in 2025

The Royal Mint has unveiled five new designs to toast in the New Year with the collections marking major anniversaries in 2025.

125 years since the birth of the the Queen Mother, the 350 anniversary and stories from World War Two are just some of the commemorative coins due to be minted in south Wales.

The Royal Mint, based in Llantrisant, is one of Britain’s oldest companies and the original maker of UK coins, with a history spanning more than 1,100 years.

Among the designs set to enter circulation is a commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of the modern railway.

2025 marks two centuries since George Stephenson’s steam-powered Locomotion No. 1 transported hundreds of passengers in England for 26 miles between Shildon, Darlington and Stockton.

The £2 coins depicts the train in action with the inscription reading 'ACTIVE LOCOMOTION NO. 1'.

Another coin will be minted in celebration Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, more commonly known as the Red Arrows.

2025 will mark 60 years since the first Red Arrows display with an commemorative 50p coin depicting the Red Arrows in flight. Since their first season in 1965, the Red Arrows have displayed almost 5000 times and in 57 countries.

The coin features three of the Red Arrows’ distinctive BAE Systems Hawk T1 aircraft accompanied by the coloured trails used in the team’s aerial displays.
