Landslide blocks road after strong wind and rain hit North Wales
A landslide has blocked a road in Snowdonia after strong wind and rain hit North Wales.The A498 in was shut in both directions between the Pen-y-Gwryd Hotel and the Prince Llewelyn Hotel in Beddgelert.Dramatic images taken by local residents show large rocks, mud, and floodwater obstructing the road.North Wales Police said officers were sent to the road and urged people to avoid the area.
In a statement, North Wales Police said: "Please be aware that the A498 between the Penygwryd Hotel and Beddgelert is currently closed due to a landslide. The road is completely blocked and officers are on their way."Diversions will be put in place once our colleagues from Highways arrive so please avoid the area."The large landslide comes after gale-force winds and heavy rain were forecast for North Wales.The stormy conditions are as a result of Hurricane Ian, which has caused havoc across the Atlantic in Cuba and Florida in recent days. Weather experts predicted gusts of up to 60mph as well as strong winds in North Wales today.
