Man arrested as police investigate stabbing in Butetown, Cardiff
A 44-year-old man has been arrested as police investigate a stabbing in the Butetown area of Cardiff, which happened shortly after nine o'clock this morning.
South Wales Police confirmed it was dealing with an incident, with the area cordoned off and a number of emergency service vehicles at the scene.
A spokesperson for the force said: "South Wales Police is investigating a stabbing in Hansen Street, Butetown, Cardiff, shortly after 9am this morning.
"A 44-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is in custody.
"Hansen Street remains closed off by a police cordon and we thank the local community for their co-operation while enquiries continue.
"Further information will be provided as soon as possible."
A spokesperson for the nearby Huggard Centre said: "There has been an incident in the vicinity of our building that the police and ambulance have been attending.
"The building is still open to homeless people and we are still providing our services.
"We're co-operating in any way that we can at the moment with the police and ambulance service."
They also confirmed the incident "hasn't happened within the building."
The cafe in the housing options centre is open and people in the Huggard Centre are being told to use an alternative entrance.
At least one police helicopter has been seen flying over head and one resident described seeing "armed police" in the area.
Twitter user Beth, wrote: "Anyone know what's happening on Dumballs Road, Cardiff? Armed police and buildings being told to lock down."
Another eyewitness told ITV News the area was cordoned off and she had seen a number of ambulances and police vans present.
