A man has traced his grandfather's final steps in an emotional film made for his mother, who has dementia.

David Williams travelled to Anzio in Italy to find out more about his grandad Donald James Millard's last journey during World War 2.

He documented the trip in a 15-minute video called 'Finding Grandad Jimmy'.

The documentary has already been viewed more than 2,000 times, as David released it in the lead up to Remembrance Day.

David said: "I created the documentary for my mum who sadly has dementia, she was only held once by her father as a baby and I wanted to retrace his final steps, while she is still with us.

"Her eyes always light up when talking about her father, so this was for her as I feel next year's remembrance will be too late."

Since the documentary was created last month, people have taken to social media to praise the 'beautiful' and 'emotional' film.

David has been overwhelmed by the response it has received, he added: "It's incredible and extraordinary that I have been contacted by so many people, even strangers.

"They have contacted me sharing their own stories, it is touching that this film has sparked emotions and awareness and it will hopefully be a force for good.

"The documentary is very emotional but I am glad I could highlight an incredible part of WW2 history."

This year the Royal British Legion marks the 100 year anniversary since the United Kingdom's Remembrance traditions were first brought together.
