Gary Jenkins death: Three deny murdering father at Cardiff park

A sixteen year old girl has denied murdering a father of two in a Cardiff park.

Two other men have also pleaded not guilty to murdering Dr Gary Jenkins in the early hours of 20 July at Bute Park.

Dr Jenkins suffered suffered an "unsurvivable" brain injury and died sixteen days later at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff - leaving behind his family.Jason Edwards, 25, Lee Strickland, 36, and the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared today (2 November) at Newport Crown Court.All three pleaded not guilty to murder, manslaughter and robbery and also denied assault occasioning actual bodily harm.



The court heard all three will return for a further hearing next month with a trial - estimated to last four weeks - scheduled to begin on 17 January 2022.

Dr Jenkins worked for Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust and has been described as a "loving father of two."

In a statement, his family said: "We are distraught to announce the untimely death of Dr Gary Jenkins, who was a loving father of two wonderful daughters.

"He lived his life happily with love, music, creativity and dedication to his profession."
