Kitten trapped in black bin bag rescued from teenage boys found threatening to 'burn' it

The boys talking about hurting the kitten ran off when a woman overheard them and threatened to call the police.

A kitten has been saved after being discovered, trapped inside a black bin bag with several teenage boys threatening to 'burn' it.

The cat, thought to be around seven to eight months old, was found by a woman who was walking her dog around Hendre Lake, in the St Mellons area of Cardiff on Thursday, October 14.

The woman told the RSPCA she heard a loud meowing noise coming from behind some bushes and decided to investigate. There she found three boys, holding a bin liner and discussing "burning the cat" they had trapped inside.

The boys, thought to be aged about 12 or 13, ran off once the woman threatened to call the police.

The woman took the kitten home before it was collected by the RSPCA and taken to be checked over. The animal was uninjured and is "now doing well".

The cat was not microchipped and the charity said it will be looking to rehome him if an owner does not come forward.

Inspector Evans said: “This sort of incident beggars belief, and we are extremely grateful that this kind-hearted member of the public intervened when she did."Although understandably nervous at first after his ordeal, the kitten is now doing well. He’s had a thorough check over, including some flea and worm treatment, and is now safe and enjoying lots of TLC.

“As well as appealing for information about this appalling incident, someone could be missing their cat as the lake is very close to residential areas. If this is you, please get in touch with the RSPCA.”
