Man goes viral on Tiktok with life-changing surprise for ex-girlfriend's birthday

A man surprised his ex-girlfriend on her 31st birthday by telling her he'd paid off her six-figure mortgage.

Shaun Nyland and Cat Keenan broke up in February, but Shaun, 30, said he wanted to take financial pressure off his former flame.

He filmed himself throwing a set of house keys at Cat, before announcing that she owned the property in full.

A bewildered Cat exclaims: "You're winding me up!" before Shaun reassures her it's not a prank.

The couple met while they were both in their early twenties and moved into their semi-detached four-bedroom townhouse in Newport, south Wales.

They started to share their lives on the social media app TikTok in October 2019, and amassed nearly five million followers between them with their comedy videos.

Cat had previously worked as a dog walker and Sean was a sales manager at Parcelforce, but they became so successful on TikTok that they were able to give up their day jobs, earning more in one day on social media than their entire monthly salaries.

But working and living together around the clock began to take its toll and the two went their separate ways after seven years together.

However, they have remained amicable, with Shaun describing Cat as "the best mum ever" to Tommy, Cat's son from a previous relationship, and Leo, who the couple had together.

The birthday video, which has racked up more than four million views on TikTok, begins with Shaun saying: "Cat... catch! House keys."

Cat replies: "Yeah... why are you giving me these for?"

Shaun replies: "Well it's your birthday today. I want you to have the best birthday ever.

"Look, I know we're not together anymore and you've been struggling paying off the mortgage every single month, and I know it's been hard, but I'm so proud of you - so, so proud of you. You're the best mum ever.

"So I did something - I rang up the bank, I paid off the entire mortgage - this house now belongs to you."

Cat shakes her head in disbelief and laughs as she says: "You haven't - you're winding me up, come on."

She refuses to believe Shaun until he urges her to check her emails, where she finds confirmation from the bank that she owes nothing on the house.

"You deserve it," Shaun adds as Cat throws her arms around him.

After the pair broke up this year, Cat stayed in the family home while Shaun went to stay with his parents.

His popularity on TikTok continued, but Cat struggled to maintain the same level of success and slowly found her regular income stream drying up.

Noticing that Cat had become less active online, Shaun realised his ex was struggling and decided to come to her rescue.

"I wanted to take that pressure off her," he said, adding that he'd come into a bit of money through his TikTok account and several other projects.

"If I am able to do it, then why not? I wanted to keep a roof over hers and Leo's head and take the pressure off Cat."

Cat added: "When we were together, there was more work coming in. Going alone was a struggle. It was a huge shock when Shaun did what he did."

In a follow-up video posted by Cat after she's recovered from the shock, Shaun tells her: "You gave me the best gift of all time - you brought Leo into this world.

"I know you've been struggling, you've been telling me you're struggling, you've been working really hard, and it just makes sense to put a roof over yours and Leo's heads."
