Mick McCarthy response to Cardiff City fans booing and chanting after West Brom defeat

Cardiff City manager Mick McCarthy had to endure chants of "You're getting sacked in the morning" from both sets of supporters on Tuesday night following the team's sixth defeat in seven games.

The Bluebirds lost 4-0 at home against West Brom making it their fourth defeat in a row.

McCarthy, who has seen his side concede nine goals in two games, said: "People singing that at me...the away fans, that doesn't bother me one bit.

"When the home fans start doing it, that's a different ball game all together.

"I fully understand the fans, and I have no complaints about them at all. I share their frustrations and I can't say we don't deserve it.

"We need a result and fast to get some momentum back quickly. I'm not taking any comfort in anything at the moment.

"I want to turn it around and make sure we do better. We will carry on and working as hard as we can to do that."

Karlan Grant, Alex Mowatt and Matt Phillips all scored for their team, while Cardiff defender Curtis Nelson added to the home side's misery by putting the ball in his own net.

Discussing the result, McCarthy said that he was “bitterly disappointed”.

“We were beaten by the much better side", he said.

"But we’ve contributed to that with the goals we gave away - they were poor goals to concede.

“I come in and take the responsibility for it and I always will because it’s my team, my tactics, the way we do it, but they [the players] are very aware and very honest about it, quite a few of them have been saying that they need to take part of the responsibility."

Mick McCarthy was appointed manager of Cardiff City in January 2021. In his first 26 games with the club, the Bluebirds only lost three.

"Whether we can get back to the same form we were in last year, I don't know", McCarthy added.

"But we're going to have to try, that's for certain. We need a result and we need a result fast because confidence starts starts to go, and that makes it difficult for everybody, so we still need to stick together and get a result."

Cardiff City has not yet made a comment on Mick McCarthy’s position with the club.
