Ambulance crew stranded after recovery truck unable to find diesel to help them
An ambulance crew waited more than four hours after their vehicle broke down as recovery trucks struggled to find diesel to help them.
Seren Williams and Tia Richards-Moore, who work for Cartello Ambulance, a private ambulance service, were driving to a patient in Ysbyty Glan Clwyd.
On their way, their vehicle broke down in Llanddulas, Aberegele on Monday afternoon.
A backup ambulance was sent to collect them, however it had to abandon the rescue effort over concerns it would run out of diesel before arriving.
Seren and Tia then decided to call a recovery truck only to be told that breakdown companies were also having difficulty accessing fuel and could not provide assistance.
Seren said: "It’s ridiculous at the minute that emergency services and vital services can’t get fuel because people are panicking that there is a shortage.
"There wasn’t a shortage until people started being ridiculous with how much fuel they were buying.
"It’s making our jobs a lot harder and it’s worrying for everyone not knowing if we are going to be able to do our jobs."
As no recovery truck could come and help them, the pair decided to abandon their vehicle and were given a lift back to their Flintshire depot by a couple passing by.
Seren is urging people to only fill up their vehicles if it is necessary and says "Think before you fill up - do you really need to?"
