Drivers in Wales queue up for fuel despite warnings not to panic buy
Drivers in Wales have ignored the "don't panic" message and queued at petrol stations to stock up on fuel amid fears of a shortage.
Queues formed at Asda Petrol Station in Leckwith Retail Park, Cardiff, on Friday (September 24) with staff guiding customers through the garage.
At a Llandudno supermarket, extra staff were also marshalling cars.
And traffic around petrol stations was "choked up" in Bridgend. One nearby resident said: "There's panic buying and queues at petrol stations. Tremains Road was chock-a-block from the traffic lights and up to the petrol pump."
BP, Esso and Tesco petrol forecourts have been impacted by the challenges of getting petrol deliveries.
BP said that around 20 of its 1,200 petrol forecourts were closed due to a lack of available fuel, with between 50 and 100 sites affected by the loss of at least one grade of fuel.
A “small number” of Tesco refilling stations have also been impacted, said Esso owner ExxonMobil, which runs the sites.
Transport Secretary Grant Shapps earlier tried to dissuade drivers from panic buying petrol, saying that motorists should “carry on as normal”.
"The advice would be to carry on as normal, and that is what BP is saying as well,” he said.
