Entire year group in Welsh school being urged to get a Covid test after prom
A group of year 11 students are being urged to get a Covid test after their school prom in Wales.
The super-spreader event was held at Cwrt Bleddyn hotel near Usk on Wednesday 11 August, with pupils from Caerleon Comprehensive attending.
Public Health Wales and local councils highlighted the issue after a significant number of positive cases have been linked to the event.
The school prom was organised privately following student's receiving their GCSE results last week. The school have made contact with the year 11 pupils urging them to get a Covid-19 PCR test.
A number of after parties also took place after the event, with the appeal extending out to anyone who might have attended.
Anyone showing Covid symptoms are asked to self-isolate immediately and avoid socialising.
It comes as 16 and 17-year-olds in Wales are now being encouraged to get vaccinated following a government announcement on 4 August.
According to the latest figures, almost half (46.6%) of confirmed cases of coronavirus are in people under the age of 40.
Furthermore, it's estimated that one in nine people aged 17-24 are affected by long Covid.
