Plans for a skywalk to the top of Cardiff's Principality Stadium and a zip wire attraction at the venue have been approved by councillors.Daredevil visitors will be able to climb the spires and walk over the venue’s roof while the attraction will also feature a “suspension wire bridge”, a viewing platform, and a zip wire from the top of the home of Welsh rugby.Millennium Stadium Plc’s request for planning permission has been granted after a consultation period which saw two objections on privacy grounds.

However, a Cardiff council planning report said “the distances involved, the limitations on hours, and practical nature of the proposals means that the impact will not be significant or negative”.The zip wire will also be at least 80m from residential properties.Artist impressions submitted with the planning application show people walking along the roof and riding down the zip wire.

The venue will become the first stadium in the UK to have a rooftop zip wire. The stairway up to the roof will be built from within the stadium. The project would create two extra full-time and eight part-time jobs. The £121m stadium opened in 1999.This year it was  transformed into Dragon’s Heart Hospital  to deal with the impact of coronavirus.
