I’m a Celebrity red telephone box arrives on set but it looks completely different to how you remember
The famous I’m a Celebrity red telephone box has been spotted arriving on set at Gwrych Castle.
The box, that is usually the centrepiece of jungle life, gives campmates the chance to win treats by answering a question during the Dingo Dollar challenge.
Although it is not known what exactly it will be used for this year, its appearance looks a little more spooky than usual.
A picture taken by a local man, who was walking near the Abergele golf course, shows how the telephone box appears neglected with discoloured paint and smashed windows.
It is not clear at the moment whether the phone box will be used in the main camp, or if it will be placed in a second camp, as seen in previous series.
The man who took the pictures, but did not want to be named, said: “I’ve never watched the show before.
“It was just that someone who I was with yesterday said, ‘look at that telephone box, that will probably be the one they’ll use on the show’.”
He told how production crews also appear to be gathering pace at the historical site, where the series will be filmed this year.
“It seems to be well underway now, it’s unbelievable - it seems to be a very big set up,” he said.
“It’s a huge set up.
“They’ve been building huge tenting areas, cranes have been at the castle for a number of weeks now and there’s a constant stream of vehicles going up there.
“Some of the structures being built there are huge - I believe, and this is only hearsay, that they’ll be used for the production and editing studios.
“I can’t see what’s going on in the castle itself, but I can see they’ve put plastic roofs on a lot of the castle building.”
It comes days after TV presenters Ant and Dec teased fans with a comical video ahead of the new series, that begins in November.
The duo tweeted the clip, pretending to arrive in Australia then being confused when they see a sheep and dingo dollars are not accepted.
But the man said he’s yet to see the pair in North Wales.
Asked whether he will be watching this year, he said: “Well, I presume so.
“It’s got to be good publicity for North Wales, and it will certainly be good publicity for Abergele,” he added.
“But I suppose it’s happened at the wrong time, because of covid - people just can’t come.
“Prior to this lockdown, before the castle shut, there was a never-ending stream of visitors to Gwrych Castle, I’ve never seen as many people visiting.
“I think it will bring a lot of people to the area in future.”
