Wales' Jamie Clarke has thanked fans for their support after he crashed out of the World Snooker Championship.

Clarke put in one of his best ever performances to make it past world number four Mark Allen in the first round of the competition last week, but he was unable to replicate his form against Anthony McGill.

The qualifier took an 8-2 lead in the match, but McGill came back strong at the prestigious snooker venue to win the match 13-12.

The pair had exchanged some words as tempers flared at the Crucible, with McGill claiming that Clarke was in his eye-line before his shot.

It prompted a post on social media from Clarke, saying "You want to dance, let's dance".

McGill came back strong though, winning five consecutive frames to make it 8-7.

After his exit, Clarke posted a message for those who had supported him during the championship.

Speaking to ITV Wales' sports reporter Beth Fisher last week, Clarke had said that to even get to play at the Crucible was a major honour.

"I never thought I would play get to play at the Crucible, I never thought I was good enough. Somehow I managed to qualify and then play one of the best matches of my life," he said.

"It is also a case of go out and love the experience, enjoy the atmosphere enjoy it all and that can really work for you."
