Cardiff Bay residents 'fed up' of litter and anti-social behaviour after large crowd gatherings
Cardiff Bay residents said they are 'fed up' with anti-social behaviour, noise and litter after hundreds of people gathered in the area on Saturday night.
Pictures show crowds in the Oval Basin, and locals claimed many were failing to comply with social distancing.On Sunday morning the area strewn with litter across the basin and surrounding areas for the second day in a row after similar scenes on Saturday morning.
On Friday, two people two people were arrested following an altercation. It prompted police to introduce additional powers to ban people from the area for a period of up to 48 hours.
One resident said the issue had become 'unbearable' for the many residents who live in the Bay.
"There is an issue with litter but the main issues for me as a resident are antisocialbehaviour and worrying about the spread of coronavirus.''Another local said the Roald Dahl Plass has become a hotspot for litter. “Unfortunately it's now a place where people are dumping empty beer bottles and laughing gas canisters. More action needs to be taken.”
The Welsh Government website advises people to avoid places where ''many people tend to come together.'' Following arrests made at Cardiff Bay on Friday, police were given Secton 35 dispersal powers in the area.Detective inspector Jeff Burton of South Wales Police said it is important that people follow coronavirus restrictions for their own safety and others. “The vast majority of people did just that but the selfish actions of a minority left us with no choice but to impose the Section 35 dispersal notice for the area. Violence, disorder, and antisocial behaviour will not be tolerated.''
