One Jack Russell and 11 spaniels have been stolen from three homes across Gwent in four days.
Three of the spaniels and the Jack Russell were taken from a shed on Bedwellty Road in Markham sometime between 9.30pm on Sunday 26th July and 7am on Monday 27th July.
Two spaniels were stolen from a shed on Pwll Y Pant in Caerphilly around 1.15am on Tuesday 28th July.
Six spaniels were stolen from outdoor kennels on Broad Street Common in Newport sometime between 3am and 10.45am on Tuesday 28th July.
It is believed the spaniels were targeted specifically.
Officers are asking anyone with information to call 101.
Police are urging dog owners to take extra security measures to ensure the safety of their pets:
Ensure your pet is microchipped – if your dog runs off and it is found, you can be easily traced as its owner. If your dog is stolen, when it is taken to the vets, they will discover that the dog is chipped and you will be identified as its rightful owner
Don’t leave dogs alone in the street or in a car
Ensure your garden is secure and don’t leave them alone for long periods of time
If you keep them outside, make sure your property and kennels are secure
