Lucky Louis the dog saved by cave rescuers after falling down hole

A lucky dog has been saved by a team of cave rescuers after tumbling down a hole more than 25 feet deep.

Seven-year-old spaniel Louis was out on a walk with his family when he suddenly disappeared from sight.

His owners heard him barking and saw that he had fallen down the narrow hole in the ground.

Firefighters were called to the scene in Merthyr Tydfil, but requested additional help from cave specialists.So the South and Mid Wales Cave Rescue Team joined the effort to free Louis, using ropes to hoist him to safety.Video footage shows the pooch being hauled out of the hole, before being given a stroke and fuss and returned to his owners.

Writing on social media, a team spokesperson said: "Louis, the seven-year-old spaniel, had disappeared down a hole near Merthyr Tydfil."Working with the fire service rope-rigging team, one of our team members descended to the dog who was located at the bottom of a loose and meandering shaft, 8m deep."A quick clip and haul and Louis was back with his family."

Owner Steven Maxwell commented on the post, saying: "Thank you to all of the team for rescuing my dog last night. Words can't describe how grateful I am. Amazing job."

Louis was helped by the same experts who assisted with the rescue of twelve young boys trapped in a cave in Thailand.

Members of the team travelled 6,000 miles from south Wales to help with the successful mission in July 2018.
