A further 100 Welsh coronavirus deaths in a week as decline in disease slows
The most complete figures for coronavirus deaths in Wales, covering all cases where Covid-19 was given as a cause on the death certificate, show how tough defeating the disease is proving.
The total for the week ending 5 June, released by the Office for National Statistics, was 100, just five fewer than the 105 recorded the previous week. The majority of deaths continue to be in hospitals, with nearly all the rest in care homes.
Hospitals 68 deaths (up from 60 the week before)
Care Homes 28 deaths (down from 35 the week before)
Elsewhere 4 deaths (down from 10 the week before).
The ONS now puts the total number of deaths in Wales from coronavirus at 2,317. That's considerably higher than the total of 1,448 announced by Public Health Wales, which only includes cases where there had been a positive test for Covid-19.
