Woman dies after large fire at historic Bontddu Hall in Gwynedd
A woman has died after a fire at a historic former hotel in Gwynedd.
Firefighters were called to Bontddu Hall near Dolgellau on Friday morning following reports of a large fire at the building.
Crews from Dolgellau, Harlech, Barmouth, Bala and BlaenauFfestiniog all responded to the incident.
An aerial ladder platform, high volume pump and the incidentcommand unit attended.
The woman was rescued by firefighters but she later died at the scene.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown but will be investigated by North Wales Fire and Rescue and North Wales Police.
Bontddu Hall was built in 1873 and as a hotel has attracted guests from all over the world.
Richard Burton stayed there during filming of the The Last Days of Dolwyn and Sion Connery stayed there during the filming of First Knight.
The hotel's current owners turned it into a private residence and were undertaking restoration.
