Coronavirus home testing kits now available in Wales
From today everyone in Wales with coronavirus symptoms will be able to order a home testing kit through an online portal.
The advice remains that if anyone suffering the newly-added symptoms, or a continuous cough or high fever, should self-isolate for seven days to risk the spread of infection, and anyone they live with should stay home for 14 days.
To order a test, use the UK Government website or call 119.
Although the public can receive a kit, critical workers are being prioritised.
Alternatively, critical workers can book a slot at a drive-through testing centre or mobile testing unit.
Testing will be available to all care home residents and staff who have not previously tested positive in homes where there is an ongoing outbreak.
The UK government says that you should:
Only order the test kit if you’ve had symptoms for no longer than 5 days. If possible, order the test in the first 3 days as it may take a day or two to arrive.
You can also order a test for someone you live with, aged 5 years and older, who has symptoms.
If you’re ordering a test for someone else and the person is aged 13 or over, check that they’re happy for you to do this.
Health Minister Vaughan Gething said that there will be a high level of demand for home testing kits over the first few days.
Former Wales international Jamie Roberts, who is a qualified doctor and is volunteering with the NHS during the coronavirus crisis has made a video explaining how to do a test at home
It comes as Wales' health minister has said it is "not acceptable" that some critical workers in Wales who have needed a coronavirus test have been referred as far away as Devon.
Mr Gething said there is testing available in Wales for critical workers and the government is "working with the providers" of the UK website to "iron out any quirks".
