Long queues in Cardiff as Starbucks officially reopens drive-through service for customers

Huge queues were seen outside of Starbucks in Cardiff.

Long tailbacks have been seen in Cardiff after coffee chain Starbucks officially reopened some of its branches in Wales.

Customers were eager to visit the store following the UK-wide lockdown at the end of March.

It comes after bosses announced plans to reopen around 15% of stores, with a number of them in Wales.

Cars were queued out on to the road at branches in the Dunleavy branch in Cardiff.

The stores that have been reopened will only provide customers with a takeaway-only service after closing all branches in March following advice from the government.

Starbucks follows a number of other fast-food chains that have reopened their drive-thru sites to customers in recent weeks, including Burger King and McDonald's.

The company says staff at the branches are following numerous safety measures including regular hand-washing, social distancing and contactless card payments.

The other stores currently open include the Coryton drive-through, Llanishen for takeaways, Newport Road drive-through and Pencoed drive-through.

Wales is still under tight lockdown restrictions and the official government advice is to stay home, except for very limited reasons that include exercise, travelling to and from work, and to buy food.
