Coronavirus deaths pass 1,000 in Wales
More than 1,000 people with coronavirus have now died in Wales, according to Public Health Wales figures.
A further 26 deaths were reported today, bringing the total so far to 1,023.
There have been 10,669 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Wales, including 145 new cases reported today.
The true number is likely to be higher, as not everyone displaying symptoms has been tested for the virus.
The data shows 36,389 people have been tested in Wales, with 25,720 testing negative.
According to the Office for National Statistics, the total number of Welsh coronavirus deaths between December 28 and April 24 stands at 1,285.
The figures differ to Public Health Wales, because the ONS includes all mentions of Covid-19 on a death certificate, including suspected cases of the virus, and deaths in the community.
Today the Welsh Government announced it is writing to a further 21,000 vulnerable people advising them to stay at home completely and not leave the house at all until June the 15th.
Eighty-eight thousand people have already been contacted to inform them that their conditions make them particularly susceptible to Covid-19 and that they should adopt the most severe version of self-isolating, known as shielding.
Meanwhile, a leaked Public Health Wales report says any significant easing of the coronavirus lockdown would require a mass testing programme of around 30,000 tests a day, which it proposes to create by the end of the month.
