Plaid Cymru leader writes to First Minister to demand Vaughan Gething is sacked
Plaid Cymru's leader has written to the First Minister to demand Vaughan Gething is sacked from his role as health minister after he was caught using derogatory language towards a colleague during a virtual plenary session.
Adam Price claims that not only did Mr Gething breach the ministerial code by swearing when he thought his microphone was switched off but the whole incident was "representative of the Health Minister's resistance to scrutiny".
The incident occurred during the National Assembly for Wales' third virtual plenary meeting where Mr Gething was heard criticising fellow Labour member, Jenny Rathbone.
He later apologised for his actions and said he was "embarrassed by the incident".
The moment was caught on camera here:
On Thursday, Plaid Cymru published the letter Adam Price has written to Mark Drakeford which reads, "It is with regret that I must write to you during this ongoing public health emergency to request your intervention following the scenes witnessed at the end of questions to the Health Minister at yesterday’s virtual Senedd meeting."
Mr Price goes on to say while the use of an expletive could "possibly be explained" given the "immense pressure" he is under, there is "no question" the health minister breached the ministerial code.
"The aggressive tone of the attack by the Health Minister on a Member of his own party who was raising wholly legitimate concerns is representative of the Health Minister’s resistance to scrutiny and accountability in general."
A Welsh Government spokesperson said the First Minister would respond to Mr Price's letter "in due course".
