Police break up two parties 'in quick succession' despite lockdown

Police in Wrexham broke up two parties "in quick succession" despite the current lockdown.

North Wales Police tweeted on Sunday to condemn the behaviour of those involved, and to remind people of the importance of staying at home.

The Wrexham Town Policing Team said: "2 parties located & dispersed in quick succession. This is not acceptable & action will be taken to keep the public safe, protect the NHS & save lives. We can all celebrate when this is over, but for now please stay home & adhere to government guidelines.

Last week the First Minister confirmed there will be a further three weeks of lockdown in Wales and across the UK.

His announcement followed a Cobra meeting with the First Ministers of Scotland and Northern Ireland and the UK Government.

The prime minister placed the UK in lockdown on 23 March to reduce the spread of coronavirus and “flatten the curve” to keep the number of patients at a manageable level for hospitals.

Police were given the power to enforce rules on staying at home and avoiding non-essential travel, including the issuing of fines and even making arrests.

On Monday, the First Minister told a press briefing that most people were following the rules of the lockdown and thanked them for their efforts.

He said the chief constables of all four police forces had told him that "observations of the continued restrictions remains at a high level".
