Geraint Thomas to give away free wedding to a key worker couple

Geraint Thomas is offering a free wedding to a key worker couple in November next year.

The Welsh cyclist is currently doing the second of his three 12-hour rides and has already raised more than £175,000 for NHS charites - beating his target of £100,00

Thomas is using an indoor training bike in his garage and is mirroring the 12-hour day a typical UK medic undertakes on one of their shifts.

The 2018 Tour de France winner announced on social media that St Tewdrics House in Chepstow, will be offering a wedding to a key worker couple as a "way of showing our gratitude and saying thank you."

The wedding will take place in November 2021 and there will be space for up to 100 guests.

Thomas and his wife Sara brought St Tewdrics House in 2017 and said the winners will get catering, flowers, a DJ, a stylist and photography all thrown in.

Announcing his fundraising plan on his social media account, Thomas praised the "incredible job" being done by the NHS and said he wanted to "raise a few quid" by cycling.

"I wanted to help out in any way I could, all I know is bike riding, so I thought to do a charity ride and mirror an NHS's workers shifts," Thomas said in a video message on Twitter, filmed in his garage on his home trainer.
