Two lechwe antelopes have escaped from Borth Wild Animal Kingdom

Two lechwe antelopes have escaped from a wildlife park in Ceredigion.

People are being asked to stay away from the area surrounding Borth Wild Animal Kingdom until the situation is resolved.

Ceredigion Council said it is "extremely disappointed" and has sent officers to the scene to assess the situation.

In a statement on its Facebook page, Borth Wild Animal Kingdom urged the public to "remain calm" if they see either of the animals.

The statement read: "They will run away from people so please keep your distance and call us so that we can contain them until the dart team arrive. There is no reason to be afraid, please remain calm especially if you see them so that we can get them safely back to the zoo."

In October 2017, a Eurasian lynx named Lilleth escaped from the wildlife park and was eventually destroyed after it wandered into a populated area.

The park announced on Sunday that it was closing its doors to the public due to the coronavirus outbreak.
