Parents thank police officers who helped deliver baby inside car 'in 10 seconds flat'
A grateful mum who was helped by a policeman to deliver her baby in a car has described him and his fellow officers as ''heroes.''
Marcie Crowther said her son was born in ''literally 10 seconds flat'' in a car by a roundabout outside Caernarfon at 1.15pm on Tuesday.
Oliver Grey Crowther was born weighing 5lb 8oz and is currently at the Special Care Unit at Ysbyty Gwynedd because of fluid in his lungs as a result of his quick birth.
28-year-old Marcie, from Criccieth, was on her way to the hospital when her waters broke and she felt her baby's head emerge as her husband Rob drove around the roundabout.
''I had some pains the night before but I just put it down to backache,'' Marcie said.
''It had got a lot worse, but I never expected my waters to break in the car and then suddenly feel his head.
''Oliver literally took 10 seconds to be born. Luckily, a young couple who were driving behind us called 999, and a passing officer just jumped into the car and was brilliant, but it was incredibly traumatic.''
Marcie's husband Rob described his gratitude to the officers who rushed to help.
''PC Andrew Jackson was brilliant. He just jumped into the car when he found out what was happening and called his colleagues on the radio.
''One female officer came and she was just superb. I'd love to thank her, as she was sat talking to Marcie in the car.
''At one stage, we had three police cars, an unmarked car, a police motorbike who was stopping the traffic and a police medic. It caused quite a commotion.''
Oliver's parents hope he will soon be well enough to move to the mother and baby ward at Ysbyty Gwynedd.
