Climate change one of the biggest concerns for people in Britain say Cardiff University
A study by Cardiff University has found climate change has become one of the biggest concerns for people in Britain.
The research into social attitudes revealed people now view climate change as one of the biggest issues facing the country in the next 20 years.
The survey showed rising concern about storms, flooding and heatwaves. It also suggested strong support for policies to address these.
Almost a quarter of people said climate change was the most pressing issue facing Britain in the next two decades, second only to Brexit.
In 2016, this figure was 2% in response to the same question.
The results are based on a survey of 1,401 people conducted last year.

Professor Nick Pidgeon from Cardiff University said the study showed a ''remarkable shift in British opinion.''
''With climate policy entering a critical phase, as the UK prepares to host the UN climate summit - and as many areas seek tor recover from winter flooding - these survey results provide strong evidence of a shift in perceptions among the British public towards greater concern for climate risks and their impacts.''
