Man dies after falling into river at Ystradgynlais following Storm Dennis flooding

A man has died after falling into a river at Ystradgynlais in the Swansea Valley.

Police said a man in his 60s was seen entering the River Tawe near Gorsedd Park at around 10am on Sunday.

He was rescued from the water near Trebanos Rugby Club, but despite the best efforts of paramedics, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His death is not being treated as suspicious, or linked to the adverse weather, but police have thanked those who helped in very difficult weather conditions.

Ystradgynlais RFC have tweeted their condolences and praised emergency services for their work on Sunday morning.

It follows heavy flooding which has affected most of South Wales afterStorm Dennis hit on Saturday night.
