South Wales Metro reaches 'key milestone' with new infrastructure hub

Progress on the South Wales Metro reaches a "key milestone" today with the opening of the Metro Infrastructure Hub.

The Welsh Government have said the Hub in Treforest will play a fundamental role acting as a construction distribution centre for the South Wales Metro project.

The South Wales Metro is part the Welsh Government's plan to improve public transport and better connect communities in the Valleys.

It will see new stations and tracks being built to improve connectivity, increase capacity and cut journey times.

There are plans to upgrade the track, stations and signalling and build at least five brand new stations.

The South Wales Metro project has been part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund through Welsh Government.

After the first five years the Metro Infrastructure Hub will become a maintenance depot for the services.
