'Sweet, beautiful' student Rebecca Davies, 19, died following collision in Abergavenny

The family of a 19-year-old who died following a collision in Abergavenny have paid tribute to their "sweet, beautiful girl".

Rebecca Davies died after she was taken to hospital following the incident which happened on January 2.

The student's family described her as "our shining star that will never fade".

Ms Davies, from Goytre, was studying biochemistry at Birmingham University and hoped to become a doctor.

The tribute continued: "Our daughter was beautiful inside and out. She was determined to help others, volunteering with St John Ambulance and St Mary's Hospice while studying for her degree in biochemistry at Birmingham University with the aim of becoming a doctor.

"She made us so very proud. Good night our sweet beautiful girl. May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest."

Three other people were seriously injured in the crash which involved a pink Peugeot and a blue Suzuki. It happened on the A4042 in Llanellen near Abergavenny.

Gwent Police are appealing for any drivers who were in the area at the time of the incident to check for any dashcam footage that may help their investigation.
