Scarlets Coach Mooar to leave region for All Blacks

Brad Mooar will leave his job as head coach of the Scarlets at the end of the season to take up a role with the New Zealand team, the region have confirmed.

The Scarlets say "both parties have come to an agreement" over a compensation package which allows Mooar to be released from his contract early.

The region added that it will explore "high-performance opportunities" with New Zealand rugby over the coming years as part of the agreement.

Mooar was unveiled as Scarlets coach a year ago and took over the reins at the beginning of this season following the departure of Wayne Pivac.

He'd previously been assistant coach at New Zealand franchise the Crusaders, helping Scott Robinson's team to the Super Rugby title in 2018.

Mooar will link up with New Zealand's new coach Ian Foster at the end of the Pro14 season.

The Scarlets say a number of "high quality" candidates have already expressed an interest in the head coach role.
