Plaid Cymru pledge 'decade of transformation' to make Wales a 'caring country'
Free childcare for under threes, a job guarantee for young people and free social care, are among the pledges Plaid Cymru leader Adam Price will set out in his vision for a ''caring country.''
Speaking on the first day of the party's conference in Swansea, Mr Price will tell delegates that if they win the next Assembly election in 2021 they would bring a ''new spirit of innovation'' to create ''a new Wales in a new Europe.''
Among the pledges he'll make in his speech are:
Free universal childcare from ages 1 to 3.
A weekly Welsh Child Payment, similar to the Scottish Child Payment.
A Job Guarantee for young people.
Social care free at the point of need.
The party says the introduction of a Welsh Child Payment and free universal childcare would help lift thousands of families out of poverty overnight. Away from the cradle-to-grave care priorities, Mr Price will also commit to introduce a 50km rapid transit service from Treherbert to Pontypool.
Over the two-day conference, delegates will also hear from Sinn Féin leaders Mary Lou McDonald TD and Michelle O'Neill MLA.
