Jeremy Corbyn has told Welsh delegates that Labour will “get through” its conference “united as a party”. Disagreements, notably over Brexit, have fuelled speculation that his future as leader is in doubt. But in his speech on the conference fringe in Brighton, Mr Corbyn said Labour was ready to campaign in an election, “to elect a government of education, peace and justice”

Mr Corbyn appeared at the event despite rumours that he had cancelled all his engagements on Sunday night. That in turn added to speculation that his leadership was under pressure ahead of a series of crucial conference votes on Brexit.

The Labour leader wants the party to promise a referendum where the choice would be between an improved Brexit deal and staying in the EU. The First Minister has committed Welsh Labour to campaigning for remain.
