Homeless people's tents set on fire in Newport

A number of tents owned by people sleeping on the streets in Newport have been deliberately burned down.

Emergency services were called to a fire in the car park underneath the Old Green roundabout in Newport at around 6pm on Wednesday 4 September.

Gwent Police found the tents containing the clothes, bedding and possessions of rough sleepers on fire, but say they were all empty at the time of the incident.

Officers say no injuries were reported, but they are treating the fire as deliberate with enquiries ongoing.
