Driver dies after lorry crashes off M4 near bridge

A man has died after the lorry he was driving crashed off of the M4 carriageway at the end of the Prince of Wales Bridge.

The lorry left the carriageway, down the embankment and onto land alongside the M4 Westbound.

The driver was airlifted to University Hospital Wales where he died of his injuries.

No other motorists were injured and Gwent Police have since left the scene.

Police said they expect both directions of the M4 over the bridge will remain closed for the rest of the day.

Traffic is being diverted on to the M48 and motorist are being told to expect longer journey times.
