Met Office issues yellow weather warning for heavy rain in Wales

The Met Office says heavy rainfall could lead to flooding and travel disruption in parts of north Wales on Saturday.

A yellow warning is in force from 09:00 until 23:59 as a band of rain moves across the country.

The forecaster says accumulations of 20-40mm of rain are possible, with as much as 50mm in a few places.

There is a chance of difficult driving conditions and delays or cancellations to train and bus services.

Which areas are affected?

  • Conwy

  • Denbighshire

  • Flintshire

  • Wrexham

The weather warning follows a week of record high temperatures across the UK.

On Tuesday, Bute Park in Cardiff saw temperatures reach 31.3°C, while St Athan in the Vale of Glamorgan reached 30.5°C.

The heat was followed by widespread thunder and lightning, which resulted in one Wrexham family's home setting on fire.
