Womenspire Awards: One woman's journey to becoming a pharmacist

After years of training in Pakistan, Rafia Jamil achieved her dream job as a pharmacist in Wales.

Working with patients in GP surgeries across Powys, her journey has been difficult.

After training in Pakistan, Rafia saw the role pharmacists had in the UK and knew this was exactly what she wanted, but she had no idea how to achieve it.

However, her determination saw her succeed.

Rafia researched and studied tirelessly, taking extra exams while heavily pregnant to qualify to work in Wales and is now a friendly familiar face to patients in Knighton, Builth Wells and beyond.

She has since developed a close relationship with her local community and played a significant role in improving patient care and supporting her colleagues.

Rafia’s dedication has already led to recognition, including winning the Welsh pharmacy award.

Rafia is also a finalist in the Rising Star category at this year’s Womenspire Awards.
