Telecoms giant BT has announced plans to reduce its 300 UK offices to just 30 by 2023.

It plans to instead have key locations in the future. These locations include Cardiff as well as Birmingham, Belfast, Bristol, Edinburgh, Ipswich, London and Manchester.

Around 52,000 people are employed at the current offices. The company says that no jobs will be lost in the plans which are a 'consolidation.'

BT said the 30 centres will be modern buildings, including corporate offices, contact centres and specialist sites.

Group chief executive Philip Jansen said that as a result of the programme, BT staff will be "housed in inspiring offices that are better for our business and better for our customers."

But Noel McClean from Prospect Union said that while the move would be a huge logistical challenge for all concerned.
