It was an express delivery with a difference.

An official match ball was delivered to Cardiff's Sophia Gardens ahead of tomorrow's ICC World Cup clash between Sri Lanka and New Zealand... but only after passing through more than 1500 pairs of hands.

'The Ultimate Delivery' saw volunteers and members of the public line up to pass the ball through the city's streets - and past many of its landmarks - ahead of the game tomorrow.

Starting at Cardiff Central Station , the white ball was conveyed through the streets, via water taxi across Cardiff Bay to the Senedd, through Cardiff Castle and eventually to Sophia Gardens, where it was presented to tomorrow's captains.

Organisers were hoping to set an unofficial world record for the longest ever ball rally. Wales rugby legend Shane Williams received the ball at Cardiff Central Station this morning.

The Cardiff, Wales Stadium, (as it's to be known for the tournament) will play host to four matches during the World Cup.

Following tomorrow's game, next week will see Afghanistan take on Sri Lanka, with hosts and favourites England against Bangladesh on Saturday. South Africa take on Afghanistan on June 15th.
