Dame Shirley Bassey given freedom of her home city of Cardiff
Dame Shirley Bassey has been honoured with the freedom of her home city of Cardiff at a special ceremony in City Hall.
The 82-year-old, who was born in Tiger Bay and now lives in Monaco, has sold more than 130 million records throughout her career.
Dame Shirley, who walked into Cardiff City Hall to the music of "Goldfinger", told ITV Wales receiving the honour was "up there with getting her Damehood".
The singer was nominated for the award by council leaders who said it is in recognition of her "service to Cardiff, Wales and her patronage of the Noah’s Ark Charity and of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama".
Dame Shirley joins Winston Churchill, Nelson Mandela and Pope John Paul II in receiving the honour.
