Patient injured in fire at University Hospital of Wales

A male patient has been injured in a fire on a ward at University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.

Emergency services remain at the scene after the blaze broke out in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board confirmed the patient is being treated for his injuries at the hospital.

The fire has been described as an 'isolated incident'.

The fire broke out on ward C5 South and was "contained to a side room of the ward" according to a statement released by the health board.

Patients were successfully evacuated by nurses and security staff on the ward and assessed for any injuries.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service.
