Global to axe popular Welsh radio shows on Heart and Capital

Heart Radio

Popular Welsh radio breakfast programmes including Jagger & Woody and Lois and Olli on Heart and the Capital Breakfast show with Matt and Polly are set to be axed after radio bosses said new programmes will be broadcast from London.

Radio company Global said the breakfast show on Heart, Capital and Smooth Radio were to replaced by a new programme which will be broadcast across the UK.

Staff were informed of the changes this morning. Some stations will keep local 'Drivetime' programmes.

Traffic and travel will remain along with studios in Cardiff and Wrexham but news teams will see “refreshed structures”.

Speaking to RadioToday Global's Ashley Tabor said the changes would see the company compete with Radio 1 & 2 at breakfast.

Capital Radio will be the first to see changes, with a new breakfast programme being broadcast from London on April 8th.

RadioToday reports that Global can provide three hours a day of local programmes during daytime hours, in return for an ‘enhanced local news’ service.

It's believed, as a result of the move, over 100 people including presenters are at risk of redundancy across the company.
