Welsh firefighter impresses judges on The Voice
A firefighter from Aberdare is through to the next stage of the competition of ITV's The Voice - after impressing the judges in his opening audition.
Mike Platt, who juggles his singing in between shifts at Aberdare Station, opened the first episode of the new series with Maria McKee's Show Me Heaven.
Olly Murs, will.i.am, Jennifer Hudson and Sir Tom Jones were back in the big red chairs and all turned after hearing Mike's powerful voice.
When Mike said he was from Aberdare, Tom Jones replied, "I thought I recognised that ring! You only get that when you come from the Welsh valleys."
"I honestly don't think I've ever heard a voice like yours", Jennifer Hudson told him.
After picking Team Tom, Mike said he was "just shocked they all turned".
But judge Hudson had already guessed who Mike was going to pick - "When he said Wales we knew it was over for us!
Mike said he is overwhelmed with the response he's received and is hoping to put Aberdare on the map.
