More young people report feeling lonely in Wales

Many families across Wales have been spending quality time with their loved ones this Christmas but those without close friends and relatives can face social isolation.

The National Survey of Wales revealed that 17% of people in Wales have experienced loneliness and although it's more commonly associated with the elderly, there are now more and more young people saying they have felt lonely too.

Emma O'Connell from Bridgend said that moving to a new town and having a baby left her feeling isolated.

Some cases of loneliness can lead to mental health issues including depression.

Since reaching out for help, Emma says she has felt a lot better.

Dr Deborah Morgan an expert researcher on loneliness and social isolation. She says it's important to reach out to others if you start feeling lonely.
