Fan banned from all football grounds after headbutting steward at Cardiff City stadium

A woman has been banned from every football ground in Britain for three years after she headbutted a steward at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Lois Griffiths, 41, had been drinking before going to watch Wales' Nations League fixture against Denmark last month.

The court heard that Griffiths had become frustrated and abusive to stadium staff about the length of time taking to get into the stadium for the Friday evening fixture.

When spoken to regarding her behaviour, she head-butted a steward causing a cut to his nose and bruising to both eyes.

She was arrested at the ground and taken to Cardiff Bay Police Station.

Griffiths, from Bala, Gwynedd, admitted assaulting a steward when she appeared at Cardiff Magistrates.

She is now banned from attending any UK football games for three years.

PC Christian Evans, who investigated the incident, said: “Lois Griffiths had been drinking all day in Cardiff city centre and, when sober, was mortified by her behaviour.

“The overwhelming majority of Welsh fans are well-behaved and passionate about their team.

“However, as this case shows, whenever there is evidence of football-related disorder or violence we always pursue those responsible in order that appropriate action is taken."

Griffiths was also ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work, £85 costs and £85 to fund victim services.
