Welsh language song first to hit one million plays on Spotify
A Welsh language band is hitting all the right notes, with one million plays on song streaming service Spotify.
Alffa, consisting of Dion Jones and Sion Land from Gwynedd, released the track 'Gwenwyn' in July and have seen its popularity soar.
It is the first time a Welsh language song has ever achieved that many plays on the music platform.
''We weren't expecting anything like this,'' Dion Jones said.
''It has been a huge boost for us as a band, and we're obviously really proud.''
The former Coleg Menai students formed the group while studying music at the college. The duo are now signed with Welsh record label, Recordiau Côsh.
Founder of the record label, Yws Gwynedd, believes the records success proves “language barriers are being blown wide open.”
The band have used the proceeds from the single to cover recording fees and they are now busy working on their first studio album. They hope to release it in time for next year's Eisteddfod.
